Dress of the Day - June 10, 2011

Dress of the Day: Paul Poiret opera coat (1912). One of the most significant fashion revolutionaries, Poiret is known for helping free women from the corset, his collaborations with visual artists such as Paul Iribe and Georges Lepape, and bringing the flamboyant aesthetic of the Ballet Russes to fashion.
I chose an opera coat today because this evening I'm going to see the Opera Company of Philadelphia's spectacular production of Hans Werner Henze's "Phaedra." It's so good I'm seeing it for the second time.
Would you wear this coat to the opera?
